One of my passions in counselling is helping clients SAFELY understand and overcome recent or past traumatic events. It might include overcoming a single event or multiple traumatic events that occurred over several years. Either way, I embrace the opportunity to work alongside trauma survivors and those who walk alongside them. I always remind those who have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD) that it is a very normal human response to something abnormal that occurred.
The complex nature of trauma means that individuals are often affected by things like depression, anxiety, aggression, the inability to connect emotionally to others, feeling different from others, and perhaps an inability to grieve. There is often self-blame, and several other effects that disrupt their lives and their relationships. However, there is hope and possibility on the other side of trauma. I look forward to walking a supportive journey alongside those suffering and those living with partners and family members affected by trauma.
In response to the current times relating to the fear of Covid, government lockdowns and self-isolation, as well as in response to things like geographical location and the inconvenience, or the inability to get to my counselling offices, whether permanently or temporarily, I do offer zoom sessions for individuals. There will be guidelines, safety tips, and an online contract that must be agreed to and signed by both parties before an online session takes place.
